After developing an introductory commercial capability training course for Victorian Government agencies, BRS has further rolled out the program to include Foundational (graduate), Intermediate and Advanced training courses facilitated multiple times a year through a combination of face to face and virtual modes of delivery utilising Zoom and our Learning Management System.

Why they approached us

Due to the popularity and success of the initial introductory course, BRS was engaged to design a Commercial Capability Training Program explicitly tailored to the needs, learning requirements and capabilities of staff across the Victorian Government infrastructure delivery agencies at different levels of knowledge, aligned to the Victorian Government Commercial capability matrix.

With the impact of Covid-19 creating barriers to face to face learning, OPV was keen to see the training continue to be offered to staff by using a virtual form of delivery, with the option to also provide face to face when restrictions ease.

Issue 1 - Training materials would need to be adapted to module-based learning to enable participants to remain engaged and avoid online learning fatigue

Issue 2 - Increased demand in training and the offering of additional courses to suit different knowledge levels, as well as to offer a pathway of learning for staff who had already undertaken intermediate training

BRS solution:

BRS adapted the training materials of the foundation, intermediate and advanced courses to suit module based condensed learning. The training sessions included the use of virtual breakout rooms to encourage collaboration, interaction and engagement amongst participants.

The virtual training has been supported by access to the BRS Learning Management System which offers training participants access to pre-reading material, post-session resources, tools and templates, recordings of training sessions and access to online collaboration forum in order to continue post-training knowledge and learning.

Increase in frequency of courses to address the increased interest and need for training at different levels;
Development of additional training courses (Foundation and Advanced to complement the Intermediate commercial capability course offered;
Adapting of course materials to suit virtual and face to face modes of delivery; and
Delivery of training facilitation through the innovative use of virtual technology and Learning Management System.
