The Australasian Management Challenge is a simulation program of events for local council teams across Australia & New Zealand to enter in a competitive, positive, fun and supportive development environment. Teams are challenged over 1 day, with tasks that stretch their knowledge of local government and their council’s policies and procedures, addressing realistic scenarios faced in the day-to-day management of council operations. The number, size, allocation, and timing of tasks are shaped to create an atmosphere of perceived pressure and stress, to test participants under real world conditions.

Why they approached us

BRS was engaged as a Team Coach to form, develop, and prepare 2 teams nominated to participate in the State Australasian Management Challenge competition.

Councils are invited to nominate teams of 6 (high potential individuals) to participate in the knockout competition at regional, state and ultimately national levels. The individuals are selected from across Council and do not work together as a team prior to the Challenge. The title of National Champion is a highly sort after title.

Team 1 – LeGully Blonde were awarded Joint National Champions of the 2024 Australasian Management Challenge.

The Team Formation process has evolved from lessons learned through multiple BRS engagements with small, medium, and large-scale clients with executive, senior and operational leaders and teams in public/private organisations, alliances, partnerships, projects, family business, and sport. It strives to establish the 5 Key High Performing Team attributes:

Foundation of Trust – understanding, awareness, and connection
Prescriptive vs Restrictive – bias to positive and supportive over negative and critical
Satisfaction vs Security – safety to encourage growth/challenge over being cautious/fearful
We not Me – value assisting other team members for the benefit of the team
