Development of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system has been established as a national initiative involving all RFDS Sections and Operations across Australia to ensure that needs of all participants are appropriately represented and included in the product design, enhancing scalability and usability of the future solution across the Federation.

Why they approached us

The Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the largest and most comprehensive (aero)medical organisations in the world, providing extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to people over an area of 7.69 million square kilometres.

The RFDS coordinates these activities with a combination of software applications and paper-based forms. The medical records were paper-based, with operational and limited clinical data being entered manually into multiple systems. This process was error-prone and inefficient, created duplicate data sources and made detailed reporting on clinical outcomes difficult.

BRS had been working with RFDS and supporting them on their strategic priority projects and were engaged to assist in the initial project scoping of the AEHR project. Following the receipt of funding for the project, BRS provided Project Management support through Governance, Solution Delivery and project reporting to ensure that the stakeholders were engaged with throughout and the project timeframes were met.

Issue 4 - Engage all seven legal RFDS entities operating around Australia, to collaborate and align on their requirements

BRS solution:

BRS were engaged to act in the capacity of the designated project management team for the engagement, working with key stakeholders both internally and externally to deliver the following:

Development of Terms of Reference and Project Initiation Document development;
Audit of work already completed to be leveraged for the larger project across all sections;
Stakeholder engagement and consultation;
Establishment of Project Steering Committee;
Establishment of Project Team (Working Group) with appropriate representation of all the sections and disciplines;
Risk Assessment and Opportunity Identification of the project and the various solution options;
Assistance with the roll out of communication and change management plans; and
Identification and exploration of available funding opportunities and grants.
