Most of us would acknowledge that we are all responsible for our own destiny; as we make decisions throughout our lives that impact who we are today and who we will become. But I also believe that our mindset and our approach to making these decisions plays a significant factor as to what the outcome will be.

We’ve all got those people who come into our lives, who I would call ‘energy suckers’. You know who they are; those people that you cringe when you bump into as you know their negativity is just going to suck the life out of you. They never focus on anything positive, love to play the victim and think that good things only happen to others.

The truth is; if those people changed their approach and actually took some accountability for their attitude and their actions they might surprise themselves by just how different their outlook on life might become and the results that they obtain.

Put it this way,

  • what you believe will immediately impact the action you take;
  • what you think will impact on how you choose to respond;
  • what action or response you take is going to relate to the investment you make; and
  • this investment (whether it be time or money) is going to impact the results.

Let’s take the example of children learning to ride a bike. If you have got one child who climbs on their bike and whinges that they are never going to be able to do it, it’s too hard and has every excuse under the sun as to why they shouldn’t practice and don’t put in the effort to practice– do you think they are going to be able to learn to ride? As opposed to a child who thinks, I’m going to get on this bike and practice riding it around our street until I can do it.  The challenge with this scenario is also teaching your children positivity and the ability to be resilient and get back up.

Being successful within your career is no different. Do you believe you can actually achieve that goal? What are you going to do to make it happen? How much time are you going to invest?  Are you prepared to get back up after setbacks and knockbacks?

Staying positive most of the time is difficult to master, but it has an enormous impact on the results we do or don’t achieve. There may be times when luck does play a part, but once again, I believe that luck comes back to the decisions you have made and the mindset you had at that point in time.

The power of attraction and positivity is a wonderful thing. We become the people we spend our time with. I know bad things do happen, and unfortunately we can be put into situations or events occur that are outside our control. But for the most part, we all have the ability to change our situation, be positive, make decisions and invest what is required to achieve the desired outcome.

Don’t be one of those ‘energy suckers’ we all despise. Negativity breeds negativity. If you’re not happy with where you are at, change your attitude, make some decisions and put a plan in place to change your situation.

Life is great. Surround yourself with people who choose positivity.
