By facilitating a Risk and Opportunity workshop with BMD and DIT as a collaborative group upfront it allows risk and opportunity management to be embedded as a real time process and engage collaboratively to share lessons learnt on similar project in order to proactively and successfully deliver this project across the multiple semi-isolated sites.

Why they approached us

The need to facilitate an upfront risk and opportunity workshop to proactively engage and collaborate was identified by the client and BRS were approached due to their role in facilitating the Infrastructure Industry Safety Working Group as well as their procurement assistance for a number of DIT projects together with possessing a background in the delivery of infrastructure projects with improvements in safety culture and performance.

Issue 1 - Large and complex infrastructure project including the widening, strengthening and/or replacement of nine bridges between Burra and Inman Valley

Issue 2 - The risks across the multiple isolated project sites were multiple and varied adding to the complexity of the job(s)

BRS solution:

BRS worked with both BMD and DIT to align on an agenda for the session, at a high-level the focus was to explore the following:

Establish the context – external and internal;
Identify risks and opportunities, consider lessons learnt;
Analyse and evaluate risk; and
Determine workshop outcomes, including the development of risk and opportunities matrices including recommendations for next steps based on the workshop’s findings.

The outcomes included:

Higher level of collaboration across the project team from BMD and DIT;
Development of risk and opportunities matrices including recommendations for next steps based on the workshop’s findings;
Sharing of lessons learnt and industry best practise.
