BRS was engaged to undertake reviews, actions and provide on the ground support to ensure compliance from a recent audit and to develop a detailed forward work plan that will feed into the City of Tea Tree Gully’s new Health & Safety Strategic Plan.

Why they approached us

The City of Tea Tree Gully found itself in a challenging position following the sudden departure of key Safety and Wellbeing staff. BRS was approached as it was able to provide immediate assistance at the strategic and operational level and knew the organisation well.

The scope of the project was expanded to provide safety leadership and education across Council to ensure their safety culture was in line with expectations and expected outcomes.

Issue 1 - Limited ‘in house’ health and safety expertise that would allow them to achieve business critical audit requirements

Issue 2 - Multiple ‘plans’ meaning that no single direction had been formulated with a need for alignment across all activities

Issue 3 - Lack of clear direction in what was critical, linked to identifying high-risk work and understanding what were the key priorities

BRS solution:

BRS helped formulate a clear direction of what is required to improve health & safety compliance, leadership and training by:

Understanding what high-risk work is and developing a single plan that would be used for input into Councils Health & Safety 3 Year Strategic Plan;
Understanding that Safety Leadership was not where it should be and providing assistance on developing a plan;
Recommending unnecessary work/programs that can be reduced or eliminated to reduce time, save money and drive value for money outcomes; and
Ensuring the work undertaken was linked to the culture transformation program being undertaken by the Council.
