Overview of Human Synergistics and our coaching approach

Human Synergistics® is a research-based framework used for individual, group and organisational development. It is based on a rigorous, quantitative human behaviour measure named The Circumplex which describes twelve styles of thinking and behaving and organises these into three main orientations: constructive styles, passive / defensive styles and aggressive defensive styles. Importantly, the framework aligns leadership and culture objectives, reflecting the central role individuals play in shaping culture and the way both elements are critical to the performance and sustainability of our organisations and projects.

Our coaching will be tailored to further develop your skills and capacity as a leader. We will look to develop competencies to enable you to constructively lead individuals, teams and the organisation through accountability of self-awareness of your overarching impact of leadership across your team / project / organisation.

The Human Synergistics Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) will be used as the framework for the coaching. An effective tool will challenge a leader, make them think about the areas where they can make changes, improve leadership effectiveness, increase self-awareness and confidence and consider the way they behave in different situations.

Using the LSI provides a unique 360° feedback that allows leaders to be aware of their personal orientation, thinking and behavioural styles as well as their impact on others.

Human Synergistics® Life Styles Inventory™ Tool

When coaching senior management, our focus is to develop individual competencies in a way that enables participants to lead individuals, teams and the organisation effectively. That is, through increasing the self-awareness around the overarching impact of leadership. Through a 360-degree methodology that involves and individual’s self-assessment and their colleague’s feedback, we will use the Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) tool to identify a leaders constructive and non-constructive thinking and behavioural tyles. We understand that nothing is gained from using a self-development tool that makes people feel wonderful. The LSI is an effective tool which challenge individuals and makes them think about the areas where they can make changes and improve.

Coaching philosophy

We adapt our coaching philosophy to the requirements of the participant, however, underpinning this is a consistent philosophy and commitment to accountability. Leadership is about achieving goals, being positive, building relationships and coaching others. True leaders see the value in developing and growing those around them and have developed the capability within themselves to perform this role.

Our methodology of ‘Coaching Constructively’ has been developed in line with the constructive styles of the Human Synergistics circumplex to balance both the people and task aspects of coaching. The methodology is integrated with the GROW model (Goals – Set clear goals at the outset, Reality – Explore the reality of the situation, Options – Brainstorm your options and identify the best fit, Will – what will you do next to take action?) and the best practice recommendations of the International Coaching Federation.

We recommend the Human Synergistic approach for the following key reasons:

  • The tools offer a method of assessing the extent to which organisations and individuals achieve a balance between the task and people elements of work
  • The tools offer a method of assessing the extent to which organisations and individuals are motivated by insecurities compared with being motivated by satisfaction
  • The tools offer an objective method of measuring organisational culture and leadership behaviour, enabling progress to be tracked over time
  • Constructive leadership and culture styles are clearly aligned and linked to business performance
  • Measurements can be achieved at both the individual and organisational level, and across every level of an organisation. Importantly these are clearly presented through a consistent framework

Coaching structure

 

  • Prior to your initial debrief an online survey will be completed by yourself (LSI1) and by others to provide feedback (LSI2). We would look to obtain feedback from your managers, peers and direct reports (if any)
  • The initial debrief session will then be held to discuss the results of the report and how this links to your thinking style, behaviour and impact on others
  • Each 1:1 coaching session will provide the space to discuss and identify the key drivers for change and clarify objectives and key learnings
  • We would provide you with templates to develop your own personal action plan, and any other relevant planning documents that best suit the outcomes you are looking to achieve. We would then work with you to develop those documents
  • Preparatory work will be provided for each session along with relevant articles and reading which must be completed to ensure the benefit of the sessions is maximised – this will be done once the key drivers and objectives have been identified
  • The key to success of this program will be the work undertaken by the participant prior to each session and the commitment to action after each session

Having secured the pinnacle of success as an Australian athlete with a gold medal triumph at the Commonwealth Games for netball, Sarah knows firsthand what it takes to conquer challenges and be part of a high performing team. Over the past two decades Sarah has worked within the corporate environment at both national and international levels guiding teams to achieve their fullest potential.

Sarah is a true leader with a unique knack for inspiring and driving individuals and teams towards peak performance. her innate understanding of human dynamics and passion for cultivating a high performing team culture provides and environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Our Leadership Coaching LSI process includes:

  • Human Synergistics LSI1&2 tools and administration
  • 1 x 1.5hr LSI debrief (including preparation)
  • 1 x 1hr LSI action planning session (including preparation)
  • 3 x 1hr individual coaching sessions (includes email follow up and provision of additional resources and tools)

The cost of this program with Sarah Sutter as your coach will be $3,335 + GST

Terms & Conditions

  • Additional coaching sessions can be undertaken on a time and expense basis if required
  • Rates will be revised annually on 30 June in line with market increases
  • An upfront invoice of 100% will be provided at the commencement of the engagement
  • Payment terms are 7 days upon receipt of invoice
  • Cancellation or reschedule with less than 2 business days notice will forfeit the cost of the session
